Cara Delevingne "made a mood board" for her debut album.

The 34-year-old star released Not Normal in September, and Cara has now explained how she created the visual world that surrounded the record.

The London-born star - who recruited Severance cinematographer Jessica Lee Gagne for some of the album's visuals - told Bustle: "I was confused by how the visual side of an album was done because I think a lot of people, specifically after Brat, were like, 'What's your colour?' I was like, 'I don't know!'

"To me, this is multicoloured. I just want to feel like I'm floating in space and things are happening around me -- but space feels really empty, and this album doesn't. I made a mood board for it with really abstract-looking photos.

"One of them was Jessica's, and it's a photo of a puddle, and in the puddle are clouds. I was using a lot of things where you don't know if they're real or not."

Cara explained that Jessica required some persuasion before she committed to the project.

She shared: "When I first started speaking to Jessica, I didn't tell her a lot.

"She was not too keen about making a music video. She was like, 'That's just not something I'm interested in.' I just gave her the album to listen to. I always wanted to make a video of I Forgot into Out of My Head. They blend seamlessly into each other.

"She was like, '[What about] making a video of these two songs together?' I was like, 'Wow, that's so crazy. We're on the same page.'"

Meanwhile, Cara recently claimed that her "whole life" was building up to the release of her debut album.

Speaking to ELLE, Cara shared: "I've been working on it for three years. It's something I've put so much time into and I actually feel like I've been working on it for my whole life because it's all been leading up to this.

"I believed in myself and tried making friends with myself. I know that sounds weird. I was just really horrible to myself, and when you get out of your own way it's pretty crazy what you can achieve."
