Bret Michaels is taking the "next several months off" to recover after undergoing kidney stone surgery.

The Poison star previously told fans he would be taking "three to four weeks" off from touring after the operation and he was back onstage on Friday (21.08.26) for a show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Georgia, but he's now been advised to cancel the rest of his shows and take a long break to "heal".

A message posted on his social media pages explained: "Following Bret Michaels' attempted show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries.

"Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 10o per cent.

"Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year's shows, including The Mountain music festival, private events and all the great shows coming up. We now look ahead to 2027 and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock."

Bret's doctors, Abby Borhan, M.D. and Dr. Patel, added in a statement: "We will be pulling Bret off the road. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels."

The 63-year-old Poison star sparked fears for his health in June when he was forced to cancel a show in Nashville, Tennessee as he was rushed to hospital.

He returned to performing but was diagnosed with a complicated obstructing kidney stone on July 19 and he underwent an operation which forced him to take several weeks off.

A message from Bret posted on his website at the time read: "I'm forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career, and truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding and, if all goes well, will hit the road late August back to delivering 1000 per cent energy, intensity and truly nothing but a good time."

The website also featured a statement from Bret's physician, Dr. Abby Borhan, who explained: "A ureteral stent was successfully placed during the procedure and remains in situ.

"Due to the nature of Michaels' post-operative condition and underlying health factors (diabetes, lower back compression fracture), he is restricted from performing for the next three to four weeks and only prescribed light physical activity as part of his recovery.

"A ureteral stent causes significant internal friction, constant physical discomfort, and localized inflammation.

"The physical demands of Bret's high-intensity live performances exacerbate these symptoms. Strenuous physical exertion carries a high risk of intense pain spikes, gross hematuria, and acute stent displacement, which would require immediate medical intervention."

The statement added: "The demanding nature of a high-intensity tour schedule makes it impossible to maintain the sterile environments, strict hydration schedules, frequent rest, and precise blood glucose management required for his safe recovery.

"He must strictly refrain from all live performances until we re-evaluate his condition in three to four weeks to determine when he can safely resume touring."
