Rebecca Black has "retreated a lot of [her] personal details from [her] world".

The 29-year-old pop star has a new girlfriend - but she's doing her best to keep their burgeoning romance out of the spotlight.

Asked how she balances fame with trying to retain some degree of privacy, Rebecca told People: "I have so many friends in wonderfully public relationships that do it so well and with so much thought. I've also had so many friends be burned by doing that. I don't really have any rules for myself and neither has anybody I've ever dated, really, as an adult."

Rebecca usually prefers to limit details about her love life to her music.

She said: "What I make and give to people is more about the art and fantasy I create and less about being tethered to my real life, if that makes sense."

Despite this, Rebecca appreciates that fans are so interested in her personal life.

The singer shared: "The other day someone sent me a tweet that was like, 'I hope Rebecca Black and her butch girlfriend are having a good day.' I sent that to her, and I was like, 'Thank you'. But I think I've always, as I've grown up, retreated a lot of my personal details from my world."

Rebecca's new love interest has already featured on her social media accounts. However, the pop star loves that she's managed to maintain a "mysterious" element to their romance.

She said: "I find it way easier to talk about in a song than I do online.

"I've posted her. She's just a naturally extremely private person. She's hard to find online, which is even annoying to me. But I go with the wind. And I love that she's mysterious. It's so hot."

Meanwhile, Rebecca previously explained that she wants to create her own distinctive brand of pop music.

The singer - who released her SALVATION album in 2025 - told DIY magazine: "I've been such a big fan of dance music forever.

"I loved artists like Skrillex and Daft Punk. Those influences started the birth of SALVATION, and influenced the way I approached silence and sounds and minimalism. But what I really wanted, more than anything, was to make a type of pop I wasn't hearing anyone doing, in my own way."
