Democrats win 3 Nevada House races, lead in bid to flip GOP-held seat

LAS VEGAS — Democrats have won three of four of Nevada’s congressional races and lead in the other one in the state’s traditionally red 2nd District.

The Associated Press called the races of Southern Nevada’s Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford early Wednesday.

Former Democratic Nevada Assemblymember Teresa Benitez-Thompson was leading with 50.1% of the vote Wednesday morning, while Republican David Flippo trailed with 44%.

The winner will replace retiring Rep. Mark Amodei, a Republican who refused to endorse Flippo, leading the Washoe County Republican Party to kick the incumbent out of the organization.

As votes continued to pour in, Titus was ahead of Nevada state Sen. Carrie Buck 59.1% to 38%. Rep. Susie Lee had 59.1% of the vote to Marty O’Donnell’s 38.6%.

Horsford was leading Cody Whipple 60.5% to 37.7%.

Early results were contributing to a Democratic flip of the House amid a national blue wave.

Titus and Horsford spoke Tuesday night at the Nevada State Democratic Party official event in downtown Las Vegas hours before preliminary results began to drop.

They spoke about Democratic House victories elsewhere and expressed optimism about the Silver State’s results. Titus described it as a historic night.

“I wish they were putting our numbers up there,” she said about screens showing TV election coverage behind the stage. “I wish we could just declare victory and go home. But I think it’s looking pretty good.”

Horsford gave an ode to the working class.

“Tonight the people of Nevada’s Fourth District sent a clear message,” he said. “They want to make sure that the people that they elect to office at every level are there to fight for them; not the corporate bosses, not the tech tycoons, not the billionaires, but for the people who make Nevada work.”

Lee took to X to celebrate her victory.

“With our new majority in Congress, we know the work we have to do,” she wrote. “It’s simple: make life less expensive and make our country more safe.”

In a separate post, she mocked O’Donnell, telling him to “enjoy your retirement.”

The Republican responded: “Susie has a lot of class. And it’s all low.”

Buck remains a Nevada state senator.

“I’m so very grateful to have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people on the campaign trail,” Buck told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a statement. “I will continue to serve the great people of Nevada as I head back to Carson City for the 2027 legislative session.”

The campaigns of O’Donnell, Whipple and Flippo did not immediately respond to early Wednesday messages seeking comment.

Boosted by President Donald Trump endorsements, The National Republican Congressional Committee threw its support behind Buck and O’Donnell, an award-winning composer. The national organization placed them in its MAGA Majority Program that provided campaign resources.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, traveled to the Las Vegas Valley to campaign with both of them.

Whipple, a rancher and businessman, never received the coveted Trump endorsement.
