Trump's super PAC to pump $10 million into Texas to boost Paxton

President Donald Trump’s super political action committee is spending $10 million to back Republican Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate bid in Texas, its biggest expenditure yet in this election cycle, according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission.

MAGA Inc. is stepping in with a television and digital ad campaign as Paxton, the state attorney general, faces a tough race against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico. Next week, Trump plans to head to Dallas to headline a rare Republican midterm convention on Paxton’s home turf as the GOP defends narrow majorities in the House and Senate.

The cash influx will come as a relief to Paxton, who has trailed Talarico in fundraising ahead of the Nov. 3 election. After a bruising primary campaign against incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, Paxton has also been hurt by reluctance on the part of the Republican Party campaign committees to back his candidacy.

“I’m going to be making contributions to various campaigns of people that I think are good Republicans that I think are good people that I think are going to win and can win or are close to winning,” Trump said at the White House on Friday.

While Texas last elected a Democrat to statewide office in 1994, the Cook Political Report rates the state’s Senate race a toss-up. Trump’s job approval has hit a low as the Iran war and cost-of-living pressures weigh on U.S. voters.

The spending may calm GOP allies who feared Trump’s super PAC would hold onto its money, which is more than any other group has amassed in the current cycle. Through June, it spent just $2.3 million — 0.6% of its total — to help Republicans win elections.

Trump, the Republican Party and its congressional super PACs amassed $1.1 billion through the end of the second quarter, triple the $355 million that Democrats’ corresponding committees have on hand.

The cash advantage is one bright spot as the GOP tries to maintain its House and Senate majorities in a difficult environment as a raft of polls show widespread dissatisfaction that may hurt Republican candidates in the fall. That puts extra pressure on the party to put money behind advertising and voter mobilization efforts to energize their supporters.

“We’re going to spend a lot of money because we don’t want to lose our country,” Trump said Friday.

While MAGA Inc. holds the largest chunk of the GOP war chest, it had deployed hardly any of that cash to boost Republicans running in those competitive races. In fact, the group has spent more on operating expenses — fundraising, salaries, payroll taxes and compliance costs, for a total of $3 million.

MAGA Inc. has raised hundreds of millions of dollars since the start of 2025. That includes eight-figure donations from some of the wealthiest Republican donors: Las Vegas Sands owner Miriam Adelson, billionaire Diane Hendricks, quant trader Jeff Yass, venture capitalists Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Crypto.com operator Foris Dax Inc., and Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, the billionaire twins who founded Gemini Space Station Inc.
