Elon Musk trashes Trump's signature budget bill as 'disgusting abomination'
Published in Political News
Elon Musk trashed President Trump’s signature budget bill Tuesday as “a disgusting abomination” and called out Republican lawmakers who support the sprawling measure dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill.
Breaking dramatically with Trump, the world’s richest man said he couldn’t stay silent anymore about the budget-busting megabill that would raise the debt ceiling and blow up the federal deficit.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk said on X. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
He warned GOP members of Congress not to vote for the bill, potentially putting him in sharp conflict with Trump on a crucial issue.
“Shame on those who voted for it,” Musk added. “You know you did wrong. You know it.”
Trump did not immediately respond to Musk’s remarks. He has shrugged off previous criticism by Musk, who helped him get elected by spending an estimated $288 million on his campaign.
But progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., quickly chimed in, “Musk is right: this bill IS a ‘disgusting abomination,’ ” ticking off what he framed as harsh cost-cutting measures.
Musk, who recently left his role as a special government employee, has already criticized the bill, which narrowly passed the House of Representatives and is now being considered by the Republican-controlled Senate.
But it’s by far the Tesla and SpaceX mogul’s harshest attack on the bill, which needs virtually unanimous Republican support to pass using a legislative sleight of hand known as reconciliation.
The outburst comes just days after Trump and Musk appeared together for a chummy White House news conference billed as a friendly sendoff for the latter.
A downcast Musk announced last month that his days running the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency were numbered.
He fell far short of his goal of slashing $1 trillion or more from the budget, but still became an unpopular lightning rod for criticism over the cuts, damaging his brands — especially Tesla.
A recent New York Times exposé said Musk regularly uses large amounts of prescription and illegal psychedelic drugs including ketamine, Ecstasy and Adderall, claims he brushed off at the White House event.
