Andrew Garfield's career ambitions have become "more earthbound" in recent years.

The 43-year-old actor enjoyed huge success in his 20s, starring in The Social Network and the Spider-Man film franchise - but Andrew admits that he's now in a different place in his career.

Andrew told Variety: "I was doing Spider-Man. That was a dream from 40 years ago, so I was checking off one of my big dreams. I was also checking off just being an actor.

"I still have dreams, but they're slightly more earthbound than my previous ones. They're maybe a bit more philosophical and existential than achievement based.

"Now I think it's more I want a certain quality of life. I want a certain quality of relationships with my family and friends. I want a certain quality of relationship with myself."

Andrew admitted that he'd like to escape his own fame and the pressures of social media from time to time.

The actor said: "I think we've all had the impulse to smash our phones or throw it into the forest or throw it into the sea because we know it's taking our lives from us in some way. I'm not better than anybody else.

"I've been told, and I find it to be true, that if you leave your phone in another room, that does a lot of the heavy lifting. As soon as it's in the room, you're kind of f*****."

Meanwhile, Andrew previously explained that he feels an urgent need to live life as "fully" as possible.

The actor is very conscious of "how f****** short this visit is on this planet" and Andrew is now determined to make the most of every opportunity in his life.

He told Variety: "I've been initiated recently into a new visceral understanding of how f****** short this visit is on this planet, in this body. And I feel this crazy new urgency."

Andrew's entire outlook on life has shifted in recent years, with the actor explaining that he now wants to do things that "speak to [his] soul".

The Hollywood actor - who is dating fellow movie star Monica Barbaro - shared: "I only want to do the things that speak to my soul. Culturally, right now, there's so much numbness and lack of awareness of how life matters and that we all have a soul."
