Timothée Chalamet's return to Arrakis has moved a step closer after new behind-the-scenes images from Dune: Part Three gas revealed the scale of filming in Abu Dhabi's Liwa Desert.

Timothée will reprises his role as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Three, with director Denis Villeneuve bringing his adaptation of Frank Herbert's novels to a close, with the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi trilogy preparing for its December release.

The Abu Dhabi Film Commission has now released fresh production images from the film's 31-day shoot in the Liwa Desert, which once again doubles as the vast desert planet of Arrakis.

The images follow the release of the film's action-packed new trailer, which has generated fresh anticipation ahead of the Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment release on 18 December.

The third film, inspired by Herbert's Dune Messiah, is set 17 years after the events of Dune: Part Two and follows Paul after his rise to power as emperor.

The newly released trailer also marks the return of Zendaya as Chani alongside Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Anya Taylor-Joy and new cast member Robert Pattinson.

The film's synopsis states: "Now a ruthless Emperor, Paul must face the consequences of his reign as old allies return, terrifying new threats emerge, and betrayal lurks in every shadow."

It continues: "Haunted by visions of Imperial collapse and the reappearance of his long-lost love, Paul is drawn into a sweeping conspiracy, with Chani at the heart of its unfolding mystery. As rebellion brews and enemies close in, Paul must confront the true cost of power and the fate of those he loves the most."

Sameer Al Jaberi, head of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, said: "The opportunity to once again work with the incredible cast and crew from Dune: Part Three as Abu Dhabi's Liwa Desert stars as Arrakis for Denis Villeneuve's culminating installment was really a poignant and pivotal moment for the entire creative ecosystem of Abu Dhabi."

More than 600 UAE-based cast and crew members worked on the production during its 31-day Abu Dhabi shoot.

Herb Gains, executive vice-president of physical production at Legendary Entertainment, said: "Returning to Abu Dhabi's Liwa Desert for 'Dune: Part Three' was never in doubt."

He said: "I can't think of any place else in the world that provides such stunning imagery, as well as the support we've received from the Abu Dhabi Film Commission and our partners there across all three films. The people, crew, and resources in Abu Dhabi made an incredibly difficult undertaking feel comfortable and easy, and the attention to detail and care shown to our cast and crew was exceptional."

The production benefited from Abu Dhabi's 35 percent cashback rebate, which in some cases can rise to 50% of qualified below-the-line spending.

The shoot was supported by Creative Media Authority Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, with Image Nation Studios serving as a production partner and Epic Films providing local production services.

Timothée has become synonymous with Paul Atreides since the first Dune film was released in 2021, with the franchise earning critical acclaim and multiple Academy Awards under Denis's direction. Away from Arrakis,

The actor is also known for starring in Call Me by Your Name, Wonka, Little Women and A Complete Unknown, while Denis previously directed acclaimed films including Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Prisoners and Sicario.
