Keith Richards regrets not being able to perform with Amy Winehouse more than once.
The Rolling Stones took to the stage alongside the late singer at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2007 - before the Back to Black star died from accidental poisoning in 2011.
He told The Sunday Times: "I was always sort of 'well, I'm bound to meet her down the road'. You expect things to happen, and unfortunately no.
"I'm just very glad and honoured to have played with her at least once."
The Rolling Stones have included their interpretation of Amy's tune You Know I'm No Good on their new album Foreign Tongues - with frontman Mick Jagger's harmonica the lead instrument on the track, compared to the horns on Amy's.
Keith's Stones bandmate Ronnie Wood also opened up about Amy during the newspaper interview, as he recalled a chat he'd had with the singer prior to her passing.
He said: "She would go: 'Oh Ronnie, what am I going to do?' I said: 'Look, everyone knows you've got vodka in the water bottle. Get it together and get on stage.'
"But if you could get her up there and she stayed there, it'd be great."
Ronnie added that he was "sad" because Amy "didn't do her full span".
He sighed: "It was like saying goodbye to Billie Holiday again."
Billie died in 1959 from cirrhosis and heart failure at the age of 44.
Amy received critical acclaim for her 2006 debut album Back to Black, which earned her a total of five Grammy awards in 2008.
During her time in the showbiz industry, Amy struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as eating disorder bulimia, but had several trips to rehab - after which she stayed clean for the later years of her life.
However, it was a relapse that ultimately took her life, in July 2011.
Elsewhere in the interview, Keith spoke about recording Foreign Tongues, with the 82-year-old saying: "Sometimes when I'm working, I sort of forget that I'm actually cutting a record. I'm just 'wow', because to me what it's all about is the enjoyment of it.
"Sometimes you can easily forget and you start to think, 'This is a job.' I can't think that way about what I do."
