John Oliver has landed a "significant" guest role in General Hospital.

The Last Week Tonight host had pleaded for a "juicy" role in a soap opera during an episode of his HBO show back in March, specifically mentioning the medical drama, and he confirmed on Sunday's (28.06.26) show that his dream has come true.

An official announcement from General Hospital confirmed John has been given an "integral" role, with his appearance airing across three episodes on 2, 3, and 6 July, and he has already filmed his scenes.

John said: "General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be. It's a true honour to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show."

The 49-year-old talk show host was praised for his attitude on the set of General Hospital.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini said in a statement: "When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn't hesitate for a second. He was everything you'd hope he'd be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. He plays an integral character in the story, and I can't wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles."

The Emmy Award-winning presenter had previously spoken of his love of soaps and made a public appeal to be given a role in one of the beloved daytime sagas.

He said: "Where else can an imposter nurse be shot in a hospital? Or a woman be possessed by the devil? Not to sound like an iconic mermaid, but I want to be part of that world.

"I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I'll be on your set so fast, it'll make your head spin."

John stressed he didn't just want a cameo as himself, but was looking for a "juicy" role.

He said: "I want to be a character. And I want his name to be ridiculous.

"Also, I want to do something juicy -- like murder or slapping or being slapped or being someone's long-lost something -- and, ideally, I'd like a dramatic close-up of my face."

As well as his guest arc on General Hospital, John's appeal also led to him being given a cameo in an upcoming episode of Days of Our Lives.
