FORT WORTH, Texas — “Friday Night Lights” is celebrating its 20th anniversary in North Texas.

The Texas-set football series ran for five seasons from 2006 to 2011, and was inspired by Buzz Bissinger’s 1990 book and subsequent 2004 film adaption of the same name. While the book and film follow the real-life Permian Panthers football team, the show follows the fictional Dillon Panthers.

To celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary, ATX TV Festival and streaming company Plex are bringing a “Friday Night Lights” roadshow to five cities across the country this summer. Each event will feature a screening of a cast-selected episode, followed by a live moderated Q&A.

The roadshow will stop by Dallas’ Alamo Drafthouse Cedars (1005 Botham Jean Blvd.) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.

Series star Adrianne Palicki, who played Tyra Collette, is hosting the screening and leading the Q&A. Stacey Oristano, who played Mindy Riggins, and Derek Phillips, who played Billy Riggins, will join Palicki at the screening, which will be of her favorite episode — “Underdogs” — from Season 3.

Plex is also teasing that a surprise guest may join the cast in Dallas. Tickets to the event go on sale via Plex’s website on June 30.

Dallas is the first stop on the “Friday Night Lights” roadshow, followed by San Antonio on July 16 with the same trio in attendance.

Los Angeles will be the third stop on the tour on July 21, followed by New York on Aug. 25 and Kansas City on Aug. 28. No guests have been announced yet for these three shows.

The roadshow comes after much of the main cast and crew got together at the ATX TV Festival last month for a 20th anniversary reunion panel. The event is also where filming took place for a new documentary, “Texas Forever: The Legacy of Friday Night Lights,” which examines the impact of the show over the past two decades.

No release date has been set for the doc, but it will feature new interviews with the cast and crew about the NBC series.
