Prince Jackson, son of late pop superstar Michael Jackson, confessed he was blown away by his cousin’s performance in the upcoming biopic about his father.

Prince, Jackson’s eldest son, opened up about the first time he saw Jaafar Jackson made up to look like his famous dad in “Michael,” during a recent interview with ABC News. He served as executive producer on the film, which hit theaters on Friday.

“I had the benefit of seeing Jaafar’s transformation over pictures I’d seen on a phone or a computer,” he said. “But the first time that I saw him in person in his hair and makeup was really an emotional shock.”

The biopic charts Michael Jackson’s career starting as a kid with the Jackson 5 to his eventual rise as a beloved musical icon. The movie also features Colman Domingo as Jackson patriarch Joseph Jackson and Nia Long as the family’s mom, Katherine Jackson, in addition to Jaafar as Michael.

“I had not seen my father in a long time,” Prince explained.

“Jaafar just embodied him, and brought him back in that moment,” he continued, fighting back emotion. “It was difficult to maintain and keep composure because I really just wanted to give him a hug in that moment.”

Jackson shared Prince — whose real name is Michael Jr. — with ex-wife Debbie Rowe, to whom he was married between 1996 and 2000. A year after Prince’s birth, the couple had their daughter, Paris Jackson. And in 2002, Michael welcomed his third child, Bigi — nicknamed Blanket — by way of an anonymous surrogate.

While Bigi has not publicly commented on the biopic, Paris revealed on Instagram that she stepped away from the project after she voiced concerns about the script that went unaddressed.

“I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest (and) didn’t sit right with me,” she said. “And when they didn’t address it, I moved on with my life.”
