FORT WORTH, Texas — A key creative by “Yellowstone” spinoff “Dutton Ranch” has departed the show before its series premiere next month.

The Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler-led show began filming in North Texas in August 2025 and wrapped last month. “Dutton Ranch” is set after the events of “Yellowstone” Season 5 as Beth and Rip move to South Texas.

Puck News reported late Thursday that “Dutton Ranch” creator and showrunner Chad Feehan has been quietly let go from the series before its May 15 premiere on Paramount+ and the Paramount Network.

Here’s what to know.

‘Dutton Ranch’ loses showrunner before series premiere

Clashes on set with stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly and other key players is the reason for the split, according to reporting from Puck.

Furthermore, Puck reports that “Yellowstone” architect Taylor Sheridan and 101 Studios CEO David Glasser also weren’t happy with Feehan, so he got the boot.

As for what’s next, Puck speculates that another Season 1 writer will be elevated to showrunner if the show is renewed.

For those wondering why Sheridan himself is not running “Dutton Ranch,” he was always attached as an executive producer.

Sheridan shared last month on “Tom McCutcheon’s The Show” podcast that he’s only directly involved with “Lioness,” “Landman,” “The Madison” and “Frisco King” at the moment. Other shows like “Marshals,” “Dutton Ranch,” “Tulsa King” and “Mayor of Kingstown” are under his umbrella, but he’s not running the show.

“I don’t write it, I’m not involved in the day-to-day,” Sheridan said about “Dutton Ranch.”

In addition to Reilly and Hauser, Finn Little is reprising his “Yellowstone” role of Carter on “Dutton Ranch.” The new series also stars Ed Harris, Annette Bening, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca and Natalie Alyn Lind.
