David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, has been charged in connection with the death of a teenage girl, prosecutors in Los Angeles have confirmed.

The 21-year-old rapper, has been charged over the death of 14-year-old Rivas Hernandez after her remains were discovered in his Tesla, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

Burke was arrested last week following the discovery of the body, which was found on 8 September 2025 at a Hollywood tow yard after reports of a foul odour.

Rivas, who was from Lake Elsinore, had last been seen in April 2024.

The charges were announced in court on Monday (20.04.26) by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman who outlined the case against Burke and the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

He said: "A parent's nightmare is a situation where your daughter goes out one night and never comes back."

The attorney also described the case as a "brutal and horrific murder" during a press conference, adding the district attorney's office could seek the death penalty.

According to prosecutors, three sets of charges have been filed against Burke.

He faces a charge of first-degree murder, with special circumstances of "lying in wait", with prosecutors alleging the teenage victim went to his property before her death.

Burke also faces a charge of alleged murder for "financial gain", with Mr Hochman accusing the rapper of killing her to maintain his music career.

A third charge alleges Burke murdered a witness connected to an investigation.

Prosecutors claim the teenage victim was a witness in an inquiry into alleged sexual acts committed by the musician while she was under the age of 14.

A court order has been issued preventing further details about Rivas' death from being released or published by the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office.

Authorities have stated her remains were discovered inside the boot of Burke's impounded Tesla months after Rivas was reported missing, with the case now proceeding through the courts following the formal filing of charges.

Burke is a rising alternative R and B artist who gained attention through viral tracks such as Romantic Homicide and Here With Me.

Starting by making music in his sister's closet, he built a global audience online and quickly transitioned into chart success and major-label recognition.
