MINNEAPOLIS — Bruce Springsteen wants to share the opening moments of his Land of Hope & Dreams American Tour so he will be livestreaming the first two songs for free on Tuesday, March 31, from Target Center in Minneapolis.
The livestream will be available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/live/2EN2kOjTx_Q.
Unlike most Springsteen concerts, this one is expected to start on time, with the 7:30 p.m. livestream.
“The tour is going to be political and very topical about what’s going on in the country,” Springsteen told the Minnesota Star Tribune last week. “Minneapolis and St. Paul, that was the place I wanted to begin it, and I wanted to end it in Washington.”
The Target Center concert will mark the fourth live performance of Springsteen’s “Streets of Minneapolis.” He premiered the protest song about Operation Metro Surge on Jan. 30 at First Avenue and reprised it March 23 at a Democracy Now event in New York City and again March 28 at a No Kings rally in St. Paul.
After those three solo acoustic performances, Springsteen said he has worked up a full band arrangement for the E Street Band for the tour.
Joining the E Street Band for this tour will be Tom Morello, who helmed the Jan. 30 concert at First Avenue and toured with Springsteen in 2013-14.
“Tom is a smart, inspirational figure, directly descended from Woody Guthrie and all sorts of great topical musicians and songwriters,” Springsteen said. “He always brings a little edge to the E Street Band. He is one of the few guitarists that completely has his own voice on guitar.”
After the Minneapolis concert, Springsteen & the E Street Band head to Portland, Oregon, and Los Angeles on the 20-concert tour that ends in Washington, D.C., on May 27.
