'Yes, we are!' Nathan Fillion teases Firefly reunion after 21 years

Nathan Fillion has teased a major "announcement" sparking rumours of Firefly revival.
The 54-year-old actor - who played Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the cult classic space Western show and feature film sequel Serenity - has got fans talking after sharing videos of him visiting former co-stars including Gina Torres (Zoë Washburne), Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra), Sean Maher (Simon Tam), and Summer Glau (River Tam).
In the videos on his Instagram, Nathan can be seen visiting the homes of his castmates and telling them: "It's time."
In one caption, he wrote: "Wait... time for what? What's it time for?"
In another, he added: "Wait. Doing what? What are we doing? What are we doing, you son of a b****?!"
Nathan noted that while some people have guessed he's planning a "convention, podcast, or cross-over", they've all been off the mark.
He teased: "You are wrong."
The one post, which sees him visiting Summer's home, the caption cryptically reads: "The day has come for WHAT?? Announcement coming soon..."
In the most recent clip, he visits Jewell Staite's home, and she says: "Wait, are we?"
Nathan replies: "Yes, we are..."
She quotes Firefly, adding "shiny", as her co-star says: "I was hoping you'd say that."
In the caption, he that "an announcement is coming on Sunday, March 15".
Firefly first aired on Fox in 2002, but was cancelled after just 11 of its 14 episodes were broadcast.
It's maintained a strong fanbase with people loving the adventures of the renegade crew of smugglers, and people have constantly called for a comeback.
While Nathan's posts suggest a reunion of some kind, it's unclear whether it could be a revival series, or perhaps a 25th anniversary reunion special.
In July 2025, Morena Baccarin - who played Inara - played down the idea of a live action revival, insisting she "seriously doubts" it would be possible.
She told Inside of You with Michael Rosenaum: "There's always talk. There's always people asking about it.
"Part of me would be excited to revisit that world, and part of me is also a little bit like, I love it so much where it is, that I'm worried about reopening that door.
"That's a lot of different careers and different people that you have to negotiate with and make work and all that … schedules and whatnot. Could there be a comic book or [another] thing - maybe?"
