Selena Gomez confirms she inspired this Taylor Swift song

Selena Gomez inspired Taylor Swift's Evermore track Dorothea.
The Only Murders in the Building actress has long been the subject of speculation that the pop megastar - who she befriended in 2008 when she was dating Nick Jonas and Taylor was dating his brother Joe - had written the 2020 track about her, and Selena is "so impressed" by the way Taylor was able to articulate their teenage friendship and how it has evolved in the lyrics to the song.
Speaking on her husband Benny Blanco's podcast Friends Keep Secrets, Selena said: "'Dorothea is about me.
"I feel like a lot of huge moments that were self-defining, from relationships to family to love to hate, all of it in between--we were figuring it out because I was 15 and she was 18.
"We didn't really know what was going on. We've never seen each other any differently. When I listen to it, I'm so impressed by how it's eloquently put."
And Selena, 33, revealed she had also inspired another of Taylor's songs which hasn't been released.
She said: "There's this song that Taylor wrote about us and it was called Family.
"It was over, easily, a decade ago, insinuating in the lyrics, without quoting, it is basically saying you have these amazing dreams. You want to be in a movie, in every crowd I see you.
"Then her part was, you believe in my stupid dreams, like playing stadiums.
"Now, when I listen to those songs, both of those things have happened for us. And that's really sweet because back then, she was just like, 'I wrote this song about us and it was just our story,' and it was the sweetest thing."
Selena got engaged to Benny in December 2024 and they married last September, a month after Taylor got engaged to Travis Kelce, and the Rare Beauty founder thinks it is "the coolest" that their lives have evolved in similar ways.
Benny asked: "Do you guys ever sit there and you're just like, 'I can't believe this is our life now from where you were?' "
His wife replied: "It's moreso that wow we survived it as best as we could because it's literally all we talk about.
"When we talk about it we're not like, 'Look at this prosperity.' It's moreso like actually this is so cool that you get it.
"It's absolutely unbelievable to come from 17 years of friendship, from multiple heartbreaks and love stories and fun stories in life.
"We both ended up fortunately being engaged around the same time and that was the coolest part."
Benny's co-host Lil Dicky pointed out both Selena and Taylor had "ended up with good dudes" and she replied: "I agree... I'm very lucky."
