A new report by a British journalist who previously broke news about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s plan to return to the United Kingdom after six tumultuous years in the United States now details how the couple envision their life in Harry’s home country going forward for the next 10 or 15 years.

First off, Harry is back in the U.K. “for good” and has made a commitment to basing himself and their children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, in England for the sake of the children’s education and upbringing, Daily Mail editor at large Alison Boshoff revealed in her report and on The Royalist YouTube channel.

But Meghan? The American former TV actor-turned lifestyle guru will “come and go,” which means that she and her husband will live apart for periods of time, Boshoff said. “Meghan is going to be trans-Atlantic because she has commercial interests elsewhere and they need to earn money,” Boshoff said. She also pointed out that Meghan never liked living in the U.K. and that her lifestyle business, As Ever, currently doesn’t ship to the U.K.

Boshoff reported that Harry’s main motivation for leaving the United States is that he wanted his children, who have thus far been raised in California, to have an elite, British education. However, other journalists, including from The New York Times and Puck, have reported that the couple’s return to the U.K. also has been necessitated by their failure to make a go of it as media moguls in Hollywood.

The Daily Mail and other outlets reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex landed back in the U.K. on Wednesday on a large private jet and are settling into their new home, likely in the picturesque rural Cotswolds region west of London. They also are supposedly getting Archie and Lilibet ready to start school next week, and they brought their dogs, Mia and Pula, with them across the Atlantic. But Meghan’s famous rescue chickens have remained behind in Montecito, Sykes said on his YouTube Channel, citing a report in The Telegraph.

As part of Harry’s educational plans for Archie and Lilibet, which he and Meghan have reportedly been formulating for years, he will be their full-time, “key-at-home parent,” Boshoff reported. “He will be here for them spending every Saturday watching Archie play rugby. That is the agenda,” a source told Boshoff.

There’s no word on whether Harry will work outside the home, but the prince has never been known to have a full-time job, except when he served in the British army. Boshoff and others have reported that Harry “felt at sea in California,” lacking a purpose, missing life in England and missing certain aspects of being royal. It’s become clear that he missed having a regular, organized schedule of charity events where he could turn up, turn on the charm and get cheered on for playing the role of do-gooder. It’s often been said that being a prince is the one job that Harry is really good at.

But given Harry’s estrangement from the royal family, he and Meghan won’t return to royal duties. Charles has made it clear that the Sussexes will be “private individuals” while residing in the U.K and they won’t be given free housing at a royal residence.

Harry and Meghan will presumably try to navigate their way back into the good graces of the British public, which has developed a widely unfavorable view of the two since their acrimonious “Megxit” departure from royal life in 2020. To be seen in a new, quasi-royal way, Harry is expected to attend public-facing events in the U.K. through his founder’s role with the Invictus Games and his patronage of WellChild, a charity that supports children and young people with complex medical needs.

But as the “at-home parent,” Harry will presumably be responsible for the school run and overseeing his children’s reported nannies. Meanwhile, Meghan, who is known for her drive and ambition, will fulfill the role of family breadwinner, as entertainment writer Rob Shuter reported in June. Boshoff added that Meghan is “left to try to earn money” and keep their “dreams alive in America.”

For the time being, Harry and Meghan are keeping their nine-bedroom, 16-bath mansion in Montecito, so Meghan presumably has a place to stay as she travels back and forth between the U.K. and California. Meghan’s As Ever lifestyle company is based in California, and sells products associated with a high-end Californian lifestyle – rosé wine, flower sprinkles and jams, as Boshoff reported. The company’s Archewell production also maintains offices in Los Angeles, and staff are supposedly still there, trying to develop film and TV shows that Meghan and Harry could attach themselves to as producers.

Keeping the Montecito mansion also means that Harry and Meghan potentially have a place to spend the Christmas holidays, instead of dealing with questions over whether they will get an invitation to join the traditional royal celebration at the king’s Sandringham estate.

“The plan is for Christmas to be in Montecito,” Boshoff said, where they can enjoy “lots of time during the school holidays” as a family in because it’s where Meghan’s mother Doria still lives.

Meanwhile, a Sandringham family gathering, after so many bitter years, could prove very awkward for Harry, Meghan and the royal family. That awkwardness could extend to pressure put on Prince William to reconcile with his brother.

If Harry and Meghan were to join the Sandringham celebrations, they also would have to figure out whether they want Archie and Lilibet to be photographed, participating in the royals’ annual show of family unity, which consists of everyone walking to church on Christmas morning. Harry and Meghan have thus far kept their children’s faces out of public view, though Meghan has generously used images of them, photographed from the side or back, to promote her As Ever fruit spread products.
