SEATTLE — Four Tacoma high school students, a security guard and a suspect were injured in a stabbing during a Thursday afternoon “altercation” at Foss High School, police said.

The four students were seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals, according to Tacoma police spokesperson Officer Shelbie Boyd.

The suspect was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in police custody. The guard was treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Boyd and Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd.

Boyd said she had “pretty limited information” to share about the stabbing shortly before 2:30 p.m., but said the “scene is safe.”

Parents can pick up their children in the school’s student parking lot, Boyd said.

Someone called 911 shortly after 1:30 p.m. to report “possible stabbings” at the school, where firefighters found the six people injured, Shepherd said.

Firefighters searched the school for additional victims but did not find any, Shepherd said.

Tacoma Public Schools representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
