Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is coming to Kentucky.

According to a press release from the Kentucky House Republican Caucus, DeSantis will join House Appropriations & Revenue Chair Jason Petrie, R-Elkton, Wednesday morning at a meeting of the House Standing Committee on State Government and House Standing Committee on Elections, Constitutional Amendments, & Intergovernmental Affairs.

DeSantis and Petrie will discuss House Concurrent Resolution 45, which calls on Congress to submit to states for ratification a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Capitol Annex.

An amendment to the U.S. Constitution has not been ratified since 1992, when the 27th Amendment prohibited Congress from raising its own salary until after the next election has occurred. Amendments to the Constitution require two-thirds votes in both the U.S. House and Senate — or a convention called by two-thirds of state legislatures — as well as three-fourths of all U.S. states’ approval to be ratified.

DeSantis was once viewed as one of the favorites for the GOP nomination for president in the lead-up to the 2024 election. He eventually dropped out, with President Donald Trump winning the nomination and later reclaiming the White House.

The governor is also viewed as a potential competitor for the 2028 GOP nomination for president, according to CNN.

This is not DeSantis’ first intersection with Kentucky politics. During his primary campaign, 4th Congressional District Rep. Thomas Massie was a top surrogate for DeSantis, touring key primary states with the governor.

DeSantis is term-limited from running for reelection in 2026.
