Bo Dietl forms PAC to fight Mamdani, with help from Rudy Giuliani
Published in News & Features
NEW YORK — Bo Dietl, an outspoken private security contractor, has formed a political action committee to combat Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, and is working with Rudy Giuliani to raise “millions” for the effort, he told the Daily News Wednesday.
This PAC, called “Anybody but Mamdani,” joins a broad array of similar groups aimed at torpedoing Mamdani’s status as the favorite to win in November.
Dietl claimed the PAC raised $75,000 on Tuesday, which he said was the PAC’s first operational day. State filings have not updated to reflect that day and, as of Wednesday evening, just showed a $5,000 donation from Beau Dietl & Associates, his own firm.
“Everybody is jumping on board,” the ex-NYPD cop told The News over the phone. “And I’m going to take this guy down for what he wants to do for New York City. How I’m going to take him down is to let people know… he couldn’t run a lemonade stand, and now he wants to run New York City.”
The PAC plans to place television ads and have “victims of crimes” preach the dangers of a Mamdani administration, Dietl said. Its website is slated to go live on Thursday, he said.
Former Mayor Giuliani is involved in the PAC in a fundraising capacity, Dietl said, and Roger Kohlbecker, chief financial officer of Dietl’s firm, is listed as the PAC’s treasurer.
A spokesperson for Mamdani did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Dietl was once close with Mayor Adams, even working on his legal defense trust, but has fallen out with the mayor. He said Wednesday he most supports Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. Also in the race is former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost in the primary to Mamdani.
A flurry of anti-Mamdani PACs have formed since his upset victory on primary day, many with duplicative names like Save NYC, Save the City, New Yorkers for a Better Future and New Yorkers for a Better Future Mayor 25.
Mamdani has a few PACs in his support, as well, including a new group called We the People, America for All, which is operated by the Truth Project, a pro-Palestinian advocacy group. That PAC has already launched a $5,000 spend on a digital billboard promoting Mamdani’s plan to provide free buses.
